HGFF Festival Weekend with Gilmorehill Weekend Pass

WE ARE OFFERING YOU ALL SIX GILMOREHILL SCREENINGS FOR £25.60 WITH A HAVANA CLUB ‘TRES ANOS’ THROWN IT AT THE MANGO SALSA PARTY!

In the run up to the 1st HGFF we’re going to give you more info on our Gilmorehill screening events. Keep a look out for our film posts.

The weekend kicks off on Friday night with Me Dicen Cuba, which our director Eirene saw at Havana’s Film Festival in December. She loved this moving, musical tribute to the Cuban 5 and what a great recording of the Alexander Abreu’s song they came up with! In addition, hot from receiving 8 nominations at the Lucas Awards for his latest Los Van Van video La Moda, Alejandro Valera will show this and other videos followed by a Q&A.

On Saturday you’ll see the documentary, Never Ever Never Land, then in the evening, after a visit to the GFT to meet Fernando Perez and see La Pared de Las Palabras (not included in this pass) there’s a screening of two old favourites celebrating charismatic Glasgow women, Red Skirts on Clydeside and In Cuba They’re Still Dancing, followed by what I’m sure will be a lively discussion about changes in Scotland and Cuba, and how the kind of films we want, or are able to make, have changed in both our countries.

Finally, on Sunday 8th November, there’s another chance to see the fabulous Carlos Acosta in Day of the Flowers, written by Eirene Houston, and there will be a Q&A after the film with Eirene and director John Roberts with Hugo Rivalta and Alejandro Valera talking about Havana’s reaction to the film when it was shown there.

A highlight of the weekend (hard to choose) is the History of Cuban Cinema talk with Hugo Rivalta, whom you’ll be getting to know from his blogs about his first visit outside Cuba. By the time you meet him here, you’ll feel you already know him. There will be a little hospitality to toast our visitors and we’ll close the festival with the very Latin and winner of the best film at the Havana Film Festival New York, Boccaccerias Habaneras.

Whether you’re passionate about film or even just curious about Cuba, this Weekend Pass will give you a great opportunity to see six of the festival’s event screenings! It’ll be a busy weekend!
